Doncaster, or Danum as it was named in Roman times, is a vibrant, multi-cultured market town in South Yorkshire. The town takes it’s name from the river that flows through it and is rapidly becoming a modern and thriving hub of industry, business and tourism. The focal point for the town has to be the grand and majestic St Georges Church, or Doncaster Minster as it has become known.
Doncaster is home to an evermore successful football team, namely, Doncaster Rover’s and to the fantastic new ‘Keepmoat Stadium’. The Hub, Doncaster’s college is a fantastic, contemporary, building and is the centre for learning in the town. The new Robin Hood Airport at Finningley has brought Jobs and status to the area and is ever expanding it’s portfolio of destinations. The Indoor and outdoor markets attract visitors from miles around and the newly refurbished and extended ‘Frenchgate Centre’ provides the shopper with endless therapy, bringing top designer brands from the city high street to the towns shopping mall. No longer is there a need to travel to Leeds, Manchester or London to find quality, designer labels at affordable prices.
In Doncaster, you are never more than a mile away from open countryside and for that reason there are endless walks and places of interest to visit including Cusworth Hall and Museum of Yorkshire life, Brodsworth Hall, the ever growing Zoo, country parks and walking trails to name but a few. Doncaster is famous for it’s sensational nightlife boasting dozens and dozens of popular Pubs, Bars and nightclubs. If you prefer a more relaxing evening there is a multiscreen, state of the art Cinema at the Lakeside as well as Doncaster’s ten pin bowling venue close by. The Dome provides Swimming and Ice-skating together with a multitude of other sports including Badminton and Five-a-side Football. The Music scene in Doncaster is second to none with Chart topping bands and Artists playing to crowds of thousands at the Keepmoat stadium and to hundreds at the Dome.
There is also a vibrant local band scene at many smaller pub venues throughout the town including an amazing outlet for upcoming local talent at The Leopard on West Street.
All in all, Doncaster has become a popular and exciting 21st century town and a magnet for new business and tourism.
